Juniper is a sustainable wood alternative to Cedar
There are many benefits to constructing your projects from Juniper wood. It is long lasting and has beautiful characteristics.
Juniper trees are native to the Western North American continent. In Oregon during the early 1900’s, Western Juniper covered 1.5 million acres, but human interference with the natural fire cycle, allowed this tree to expand to more than 6 million acres. This greatly decreased the natural sagebrush and grasslands. With sustainable harvesting and milling of Juniper, habitat restoration is underway.
Juniper is a very durable wood that maintains its structure for up to 50 years outlasting todays Cedar and Redwood lumber. It has a high oil content that allows for decay and rot resistance. It also offers an attractive rustic aesthetic with cream, chocolate and pinkish tones. In combination of its durability, beauty and sustainability, Juniper is an excellent choice for raised beds, fences, retaining walls and decks.
